sleeping it off

Both my daughters have been home now for a couple of weeks with their "newborns".

Kara, of course qualifies as a newborn since she was just born on February 29.

Even though Logan has been around for a few months now, he's also behaving a lot like a newborn having just been launched from the lifeship February 20.

And apparently both dad's are having fun recording what a new mom does most of the time.

Good luck girls!

It kinda reminds me of being sleep deprived for 28 years...(the number of sleepless nights I experienced from the day Diana was born until the day Katie got married)

adventures in diagramming

Little Logan has been convalescing for the last couple of weeks. His little inscisions (from the surgery) have required soaking a few times a day. Diana decided that he was just too little to soak in the tub (or the baby bathtub, for that matter). So she got out the popcorn bowl and tried it on for size. It was a perfect fit for a perfect little dude!

Have I mentioned, he's little? ...and stinkin' adorable?

This photo generated a variety of responses but nothing as creative as the Venn Diagram designed by Uncle Dylan.
Way to go boys!

it's funny when it happens to the other guy...

Last May I blogged about the most hilarious thing I'd seen in a while. I thought it was sooo funny!

So this afternoon I was driving Angela around Ottawa. She's a fantastic navigator and we were able to run the errands without incident; that is, until the incident in the Superstore parking lot!

We'd loaded the groceries and the baby into the car. I was easing the yaris out of the parking space after conscientiously checking the mirrors and all my blind spots when the little car just stopped moving. It was like I bumped into something.

"What the heck is back there? What did I run in to?" I asked Angela, half joking / half confused.

Angela answered matter of factly, "It's a car Mom. You backed into a car - IN MY CAR!"

And so there we were, two grannies in small cars backing right into each other in the Superstore parking lot. Surprisingly NOT FUNNY for me but apparently hilarious for the handsome dude in the really great suit that caught the whole thing on his cell phone video camera.

"That was really funny, Ladies. I watched the whole thing happen. I yelled at you to stop but you didn't hear me. hahahahahaha"

The other granny just rolled down her window and asked if there was any damage to be concerned about, (which there wasn't) and drove off. Angela and I stood there looking for a moment at the unscathed bumper and shook our heads at the guy who'd taped the whole thing and carried on our way.

The moment we were in the car, Angela text messaged her dad back home in Alberta.
"I'm never letting MOM drive my car again."

one week later

Hello world! This is Kara - thrilled to be one week old TODAY! and what a day; eating, sleeping, pooping and then doing it all over again. She's worn out but happy as a clam.

daddy's can be so funny!

This afternoon Dylan was holding baby Kara while she napped. She was sleeping soundly and Dylan was enjoying the daddy/daughter time. Suddenly Kara started WIDE AWAKE! Her eyes were wide open and she was "YELLING!"

Dylan tried to console her but it was pretty clear what she wanted.

Angela came stumbling out of the bedroom, obviously awakened by the commotion out in the front room.

Dylan turned Kara so she could see her mom and exclaimed excitedly, "Look Kara! It's your mom...and she brought your milk!"

Dylan's hilarious and mother and baby are doing fine.

techie babies

Diana and Angela are sisters. And they live 4200 kilometers apart. (or 2600 miles) That's pretty much all the way across the continent. It means that they see each other occasionally.

Imagine their surprise when they discovered that they would both be mothers for the first time within days of each other! As everyone knows, Logan took the entire situation by surprise arriving 14 weeks early. And even though he was front and center there for a good 93 days (his duration in NICU), my attention did shift to Angela and the anticipated "late" arrival of her little bundle. Each one of my five babies arrived well over due so Angela just hunkered down and set her sights on March 10, (the day her doctor PROMISED she would deliver if there was no baby by then) which would be 8 days past her due date.

But little Kara Rae Morgan "leapt" on to the scene two days early on February 29. A nice surprise for everyone and a noteworthy birthday to enjoy for years to come. I thought to myself, "all my grand-babies are special!"

Thank goodness for technology. Moments after she was born, her entire extended family was aware of her arrival (by phone and text message) and shortly after that, the pictures began arriving by email!!

i love my macbook pro/i-phone/i-pad/etc
BUT i love kara MORE!

I arrived in Ottawa this afternoon just in time for Kara to be wide awake and beautiful! She's absolutely perfect; another little miracle.

"hello fans"

And then through the miracle of modern technology little Logan and cute Kara were able to meet! It was so fun to face time across borders with the families. First we talked with Nana and Ned in Victoria. Then while Diana and Angela were visiting via face time on the computer, Papa Wally appeared on my i-phone and was able to say "hi" to Logan and Diana through the computer. It was a little bit chaotic there for a few minutes. And Nathan and Katie even made a call.

Dylan looked around the room as everyone was visiting via various forms of technology and exclaimed, "It's just like dinner at Smart's. They are all talking at the same time. Who knew this could happen?"

And it's true. The sisters and the grandparents and "the cousins" were all able to spend some time together this afternoon. Thanks world wide web!
